Some projects are straightforward. Others turn into full-blown adventures. Our most recent window replacement turned into the latter. We here at Best Choice Windows & Doors recently completed a window replacement project on an island off the coast of Maine.
Traveling from Portland to Peaks Island
Our window installation team always hd plenty of fun before starting this project. This adventure began very early in the morning on a foggy February morning.
Island projects require a completely different level of planning. When you’re working miles offshore, there’s no quick run to a hardware store if something is missing. There’s no nearby supply yard to grab an extra piece of PVC trim. Even a small mismatch in interior wood trim could cause delays that last an entire day. Thats why dedicated several hours to planning beforehand.
Before leaving for Maine, our team carefully stocked both trucks with every tool, accessory, and material needed for the installation. This included fasteners and flashing to trim components and sealants, everything was double-checked.
Once prep work was finished, our crew hit the road before sunrise and drove from Hampton New Hampshire all the way to Portland, Maine, preparing for the journey by boat to Peaks Island. To reach the job site, we had to load our two large 20-foot box trucks, full to the brim with our windows and gear, onto a cargo ferry and cross the Atlantic ocean to Peaks Island. It felt refreshing to our team to breath in the salty ocean air of Casco Bay. Traveling in winter made the journey even more exciting. Due to the oncoming winter storm, the ocean was rough and powerful, occasionally splashing water up onto the deck of the cargo boat. Challenges like this never stop our team. We are always ready for new experiences and projects that take us beyond the ordinary.

Installing Windows in a Coastal Home
Once we arrived on the island, our team got straight to work installing beautiful black double-hung replacement windows in a stunning coastal home. The window installation project featured black exterior windows paired with a clean white interior, creating a modern yet timeless look that perfectly fits the oceanfront setting. Installing windows surrounded by ocean views is definitely not part of a typical workday, but it’s projects like these that remind us why we love what we do. Working on these windows felt like any other job, and even though we were on an island, we worked as if it was any other ordinary job.

A Successful Window Installation on Peaks Island in Maine
After completing the installation, we loaded our trucks back onto the cargo boat and made our way across the ocean once again, heading home after another successful project. This project was an adventure in every sense of the word. At Best Choice Windows & Doors, no distance is too far and no challenge is too big when it comes to delivering high-quality window installation for our clients, wherever their home may be.
